Ingredients
  • Fish pieces - 250g
  • Potatoes - 350g
  • Finely chopped onion - 50 to 75g
  • Crushed ginger - ½ tablespoon
  • Crushed garlic - 1 tablespoon
  • Green chili - 4 or 5
  • Chopped curry leaves - 2 sprigs
  • Grounded black pepper - 1 ½ teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - ¼ teaspoon
  • Egg - 1
  • Bread crumbs - 100g
  • Salt - As you need
  • Cooking oil - As you need
  • Lime - ½
Instructions
  1. Clean the fish pieces and add water, turmeric powder, and salt.
  2. Cook covered under the high flame until done with all the liquid or the fish fully boiled. For me, it takes about 8 minutes.
  3. Let the fish pieces cool down. Then carefully take off the flesh without any bones.
  4. Boil the potatoes, peel off the skin, and crush them with your fingers.
  5. Finely chop the onions, green chilies, and curry leaves. Also, finely crush the garlic and ginger.
  6. Get ready with the ground black pepper, salt, and lime.
  7. Take a large bowl and add the fish, potatoes, onions, green chilies, curry leaves, ginger, garlic, black pepper, and salt.
  8. Mix everything well until all combined. Finally, add lime juice and give one last good mix. Taste and adjust salt if needed.
  9. Now make the cutlets in any shape you want.
  10. Take an egg, add some salt and beat it well. Also, take the breadcrumbs.
  11. Soak the cutlet one by one in the beaten egg.
  12. Then coat the cutlet with breadcrumbs.
  13. Do the same process to all the cutlets.
  14. Heat the oil in a deep fry pan and fry the cutlets until it turns to a golden color.
  15. This is how to make the best Sri Lankan style fish cutlet recipe without tuna or canned fish or tin fish. Serve and enjoy this delicious Sri Lankan snack.
Notes
1. I used small onion or shallot which gives a good taste. If it is hard to find you can use the large one.
2. If you don't like spiciness reduce the amount of black pepper and green chilies.
